I think the black works well against the wood texture, compared with the teal (or another blue color) you had earlier.
I may go with the black with lower opacity in the post before this one. Not saying that the full black is not working, but it really feels thick to me for some reason. However, if the black with the lower opacity is difficult with type legibility, then go with the full black value.
But I'm really liking the stamp phoenix on the card, instead of having the phoenix by itself without the box fill.
These wood designs are very nice... but I would maybe try and stay away from the 'frame within a frame' that is on the front design. I did something like that last semester and my teacher thought it weakened the illustration. I think something like your very first idea, where the phoenix sort of bled off the edges, might be stronger. Just some suggestions...
