Not Selected for the Juried Student Exhibition this year?

Bring your rejected submissions to the Welch School's small gallery by 2pm this Tuesday (TOMORROW), and we'll include them in the 2009 Salon des Refusés!

Drop Off: between 9am and 2pm, Tuesday, March 31.

In homage to the amazing artists rejected by the jury of the official Paris Salon in 1863, we invite student artists whose submissions were not selected for this year's Welch School juried exhibition to participate in our own Salon des Refusés.

The Salon des Refusés, French for “exhibition of rejects,” most famously refers to an 1863 event that was actually sponsored by the French government. In that year, artists protested the Salon jury’s rejection of more than 3,000 works, far more than usual. As did Emperor Napoléon III, we wish to let the public judge the value of works not selected. In 1863, the public and many critics ridiculed the refusés, which included such now-famous paintings as Édouard Manet's "Luncheon on the Grass" ("Le déjeuner sur l’herbe") and James McNeill Whistler's "Girl in White."

Questions? Contact Mia McBeth: artgallery@gsu.edu or come by the gallery office, AH152.

All exhibitions presented by the Welch School Gallery are sponsored in part by the GSU Student Activity Fee Fund.

Typography: Collaborative book page

Paige is doing a collaborative project between all of her classes, where everyone in each class designs a page of a book. Each class is given 3 specific colors and a theme (past/present/future). For my class, our theme was the past. I haven't really finished yet, but this was one of the first ideas i came up with.
So how about dinosaurs...

So I was getting stressed out about coming up with an ad idea. But then I came home and started making stuff, printing, tearing, and stapling.

Basically, I made a fake "kraigslist" ad about someone selling a signed guitar (by britney spearz)... and then went from there. It's not really done. But I'm happy so far.

Type Self Portrait

Pretty much done. I had a lot of fun doing this project :)

A few rough ad ideas..

This was just a funny ad that I found. I really like the design too. I think it would be fun to try something using this style in my ads.

-------------------------------------------------------
These are just 2 ideas that i quickly put together as rough ideas. I did a mini photoshoot with a box of junk this past weekend, but now i'm not sure if i'll end up using the pictures or not. the copy is kind of bleh tooo...

Here's an idea using all text. I don't know if I would keep it this clean or not. But i also want pictures or illustrations. I'm just having a hard time deciding on a final idea to use for my ads. handkerchieves is a ridiculous word.

I also would love to do "interactive" ads... like have perforated punch-outs, or cut-outs and stuff... I'm still coming up with some ideas for that.

Stationery Layout

This is my layout for my stationery. I was thinking of maybe scanning all my stuff in and using that for my layout, but I think I like this better. I was going to scan the stuff mainly because I feel that my pieces revolve mostly around the materials and the processes used. But this is cleaner...

Edit: Maybe I'll lay everything out and take a photo...

Boston!

The squirrels there were ridiculous.

There were cool stickers everywhere too.

The buildings were amaaazinggg. These are people's apartments... I'm jealous.

Bike's were drowning in snow everywhere.

Shepard Fairey. I couldn't take pictures at the exhibit... but his stickers and paste-ups were all over the city.

Water! It was almost like going to the beach for spring break...

More stickers.

Chinatown food is the best ever.

More Shepard Fairey.

These cakes were so cute! But then I got yelled at for taking pictures :(

JSE submissions

I'm back from Boston, and just trying to catch up on everything.

These are 3 poster designs I'm choosing between for the Juried Student Exhibition. Suggestions?
