Screen Printing!!!

The reason I was up until 3am:

This was my first time screen printing completely on my own from start to finish... not everything came out perfect but I was still excited about a lot of it. Screen printing is just so much fun. I love it.

It was a kind of long proccess:
1. Coat the screen with the photo-emulsion chemical. Have to make sure its completely smooth and even.
2. Let it dry for almost an hour. In the meantime, have copies of images made onto transparencies.
3. Then, lay the transparencies over the screen, and using a 150W bulb with an aluminum pie pan around it shine a light on top of all of it for 45 minutes.
4. After the exposure you have to spray it with cold war for around 10 minutes to get all the photo-emulsion stuff out of the blank areas you want to print through.
5. Let it dry... then print.

Some of the prints just kept coming out really light... I probably need to remake those.

The text was the hardest part. I need to get a piece of plexiglass to lay over the transparencies so that when I expose the photoemulsion-covered screen the text will hopefully come out much clearer next time. Which means... I'm going to be doing this all over again with a new screen. This was kind of a first trial...

I think I like the greyish envelope a lot more. But the print was a little too messy.

Luckily my hands didn't get as dirty as I though they would :)

I'll have some of the prints I did (my business card and envelope) to show in class today.

Boston//Shepard Fairey

So for spring break I chose to go to Boston for some reason... my boyfriend and I will be staying in a hostel for the week and will try to go and see as much as possible while we are there.  Although I've already been reallly excited, I am now 10 times more because I recently found out that Shepard Fairey is having an exhibit that will be on at the ICABoston while I'm there. I love all of his stuff, and I am sooooo excited that I am going to be able to see it! Plus, on Thursdays they have free admission... :)

Personal Logo

I took a small break from Rockstar Gold and revisited my personal logo from the beginning of last semester. I completely changed it around... I really disliked my logo where we were supposed to only use our initials, so I decided to use my whole name and include a little graphic character with it. These are 3 possibilities that I came up with.

This was my original:

Final Calendar

Here are my final designs for my typography calendar. The project was to pick a theme and then design a calendar using primarily type to express that theme - which in my case was a calendar for the serial killer. We were supposed to design the cover and a 2-page spread that covered 2 weeks of time.

more business card ideas

Or something like this? Is it ok if the card is a little shorter than the standard business card size?

I bought a screen printing kit.

It should hopefully work for what I want on the business cards. Thought I could use it for the envelope too.

I'm scared to open the package.

This is kind of where I want to go with my business card:
(maybe some color though)

My Wordle

Wordle: typography killer

Go to www.wordle.com and you can put in a link for your blog and it'll take out random words and make a word cloud...

My fonts!

I think I may be in love with this site. www.yourfonts.com

Stationery Variation

With Stan's advice I took out the strip at the bottom... and I reduced the logo a bit because of some previous comments.

Stationery

Stationery! An idea...

It would be printed on a textured paper of that color...

Serial Killer!

For my typography class we're making calendars. My theme is a calendar for the Serial Killer :)

My idea was to not pick a gory or typical horror font. I wanted a semi-normal font that was a little off kilter... kind of like the "organized/sociopathic" serial killer - or those who seem normal on the outside... but of course are kind of psycho.

Here are my 2 semi-final designs for the cover (I'm leaning towards the second one):

Business card - wood

I want to do a wooden business card. I think the material goes with the shop, and the more rugged look will go well with the "rock" style of Rockstar Gold.

I have found this process which I will try:

Here is a rough photoshop mock-up that I created:

I'm going to try to just use that process for the text on the front and back. For the phoenix I want to make a stencil and spray paint it onto the front. I'll try the transfer process too though. I think it's just going to be a lot of trial and errors...

If anyone knows anything else about printing on wood or even more about a wood-burning technique let me know! :)

Final logos

I changed the font of "collectibles" and made it a little more opaque. I also fixed up the phoenix's tail a bit.

I want to do this.

I just watched this video and the stop motion and the idea is amaaaazinggg. i love it.

And now I'm just obsessed... and these are a few of my favorites:

I think I've got it.

I'm pretty sure this is it.

More colors and combinations...

combination of both ideas...

What would you choose?

Which direction do you think is the strongest?

black/white + color

Here's both versions of this design...

Phoenix again

Re-visited the phoenix idea again...

The one issue with these is that they may be a little familiar? Do you think so?

something like this?

still playing with the stamp looking logo...
